I have always loved observing the patterns of nature as well as in the rugs that adorned our home growing up. My grandfather was an Armenian genocide survivor and when he came to America, he eventually opened a rug store . We always had beautiful rugs with amazing designs, tiles and plates that swirled with design and color. I also grew up visiting the studios of my parents' friends who were artists and spent their winters teaching in NYC and summers in Deer Isle, ME. At the end of the summer we would visit their studios to see their work. It was a huge influence on my work as well: observing and looking at what others might overlook. A snag of brambles or a cluster of leaves. It was all about capturing that movement. This movement crosses over into my jewelry and patterning in the dresses of the abstract figures.
