Finding my place in the world and where I belong has always been a struggle. These pieces convey the loss of roots and space. Where do our bodies belong in the world? For me, I discovered it is not here in the US, but back in the Middle East, where it is mostly too dangerous to return or I am not welcome. Being in the US means living on stolen land, along with a deep understanding that the land I want to return to was stolen from my family as well. Feeling uprooted, these works strive to stay in the discomfort of chaos or parts missing. I photograph constantly throughout the Bay Area, looking for the natural patterns that remind me of the internal struggle and churn that exists within.
