Emily Keyishian, originally from NYC/NJ area now based in the Bay Area is an abstract painter and all around creative. Her work attempts to find her path in the world and the struggle of where she belongs on the earth. Mapping the journeys her family took around the world to escape persecution within the language of abstraction is what fuels her work. She looks to inspiration in the natural world, sometimes from above and sometimes deeply embedded within the chaos of it close up. Growing up surrounded by the patterns of the Persian carpets her grandfather sold in his rug store informed the deep connection to a homeland that no longer belongs to them.
